English press release: The Comité Colbert rolls out red carpet for five new members

Five new members – Les Éditions Diane de Selliers, the Hôtel du Palais, Lorenz Bäumer, Pierre Hardy and Pierre Hermé – were co-opted on November 26. For the first time in the history of the Comité Colbert, five new luxury houses have joined the association at the same time, demonstrating the confidence of Comité Colbert members in the future of French luxury.

The fact that four businesses started and developed by creative young entrepreneurs were co-opted bears witness to the dynamism of French luxury, its capacity for self-renewal and its determination to uphold certain core values: superior quality, creativity, ethical conduct and a desire to represent French culture at international level. The fifth new member - the Hôtel du Palais, a five-star palace hotel in Biarritz - will be swelling the ranks of our members based in French regions.

The Comité Colbert is delighted to welcome these talented newcomers and offer them access to a forum enabling French luxury houses of all sizes to communicate, collaborate and work together.

"The fact that Diane de Selliers, Lorenz Bäumer, Pierre Hardy and Pierre Hermé have become members of the Comité Colbert confirms the exceptional burst of vitality shown by French creative industries in recent years. We also salute the “imperial” arrival of the Hôtel du Palais, which offers incontrovertible proof that French luxury is firmly anchored in the cultural heritage and regions of France," noted Elisabeth Ponsolle des Portes, President and CEO of the Comité Colbert.

Editions Diane de Selliers

Diane de Selliers started her publishing house in 1981 and, in 1992, brought out an exciting new collection so that readers could discover the great classics of world literature, together with the great works of art that they have inspired over the centuries. The collection has grown to include an Oriental work, The Tale of Genji by Murasaki-shikibu, illustrated with works of traditional Japanese painting, and, more recently, The Aeneid, illustrated with images of antique frescoes and mosaics. The works published by Les Editions Diane de Selliers are produced to very exacting specifications, setting a high standard for excellence and beauty on the international arts and literature scene.

Hôtel du Palais

Admirably situated overlooking the ocean, the Hôtel du Palais, a one-time holiday residence of Emperor Napoleon II of France and the Empress Eugénie, was transformed into a palace hotel late in the 19th century. While retaining its Second Empire charm and authenticity, the Hôtel du Palais offers all of the luxurious amenities of a 21st-century five-star establishment. It has 124 rooms, 28 suites and 2 royal suites, an Imperial Spa devoted to the pursuit of well-being and beauty, as well as three restaurants: La Villa Eugénie, L’Hippocampe and a gourmet restaurant named La Rotonde. Practicing hospitality as a fine art, the Hôtel du Palais is renowned for its cordial attentiveness to guests, impeccable service, luxurious dining and unique personality.

Lorenz Bäumer

In 1992, Lorenz Bäumer created his house of luxury jewelry, now located at 4, place Vendôme. A graduate of a prestigious French engineering school, Ecole Centrale de Paris, Lorenz Baumer has creative genius and an imagination all his own. He quickly made a name for himself, gaining admission to the very select "club" of great master jewelers. His creations take inspiration from the spheres of poetry, architecture and gardens. An art lover ready to tap his emotions in developing his work, Lorenz Bäumer has become famous worldwide. From Paris to Shanghai, New York or Geneva, the launch of one of his collections is now hailed as a major event.

Maison Pierre Hardy

Pierre Hardy started his business in the autumn of 1999 and was successful with his collections of women's shoes. Subsequently, he extended the range by adding a collection of men's shoes and luxury leather goods. He opened his first shop in the Palais Royal shopping arcade in Paris in 2003, then a second on Place du Palais Bourbon in February 2009. Since then, the company has established a worldwide presence thanks to its network of multibrand and department stores. Timeless yet contemporary in style, the Pierre Hardy brand advocates many of the values inherent to French luxury: it stresses the importance of creation, the value of the goods produced, the process of fabrication and the quality of customer service.

Pierre Hermé Paris

Founded in 1996 by Pierre Hermé and Charles Znaty, Pierre Hermé Paris is dedicated to the proposition of "offering all gourmet palates a unique experience in the world of tastes, sensations and pleasures." Pierre Hermé Paris has succeeded in imposing its own creative, ultra-modern register within the confectioner's art. It is visible in the innovative design of each shop, in each event presenting creations by the master chef and in each book containing his recipes. Pierre Hermé Paris is staffed by skilled professionals that share the founding partners' passion for their work and attention to detail. The company has seven shops in Tokyo, four in Paris, a production unit in Alsace ("Manufacture Macarons & Chocolats") and an online boutique.
